Silent No More: A Call to See and Support Men's Mental health

"Be strong." "Tough it out." "Man up."

Three little phrases that have built emotional prisons for generations of men.

June is Men's Health Month, and it's time to blow the smoke off the silence and say it plainly: Men are struggling. Many are suffering. And far too man aren't surviving.

The Stats That Should Shake Us

  1. 1 in 8 men will experience depression at some point in their lives.
  2. 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety disorder.
  3. Over 6 million men in the U.S. suffer from depression annually.
  4. Men die by suicide nearly 4x more often than women.
  5. White men aged 45-54 have the highest rate of suicide in the U.S.
  6. Less than 1 in 3 men who struggle with mental health will seek professional help.

These numbers aren't just data-they're dads, sons, uncles, best friends, co-workers, Soulmates.

Why Men Don't Reach Out

Lets be real: our culture hasn't given men safe space to be human. Instead, they're told to:

-Suck it up

-Avoid "being dramatic"

-Push through the pain

-Stay quiet

-Fix it themselves

So they turn inward. Numb out. Lash out. Shut down. And we miss the signs until it's too late.

What Helps - Practical Tools for Men's Mental Health

Whether you're a man reading this or someone who loves one, here's what can actually make a difference:

  1. Faith-Based Support: Encourage spiritual grounding without the pressure of "perfection". "Prayer, scripture, or even silent moments in nature can open lock-up places. "Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you" - 1 Peter 5:7
  2. Safe Conversations: Create space where men can be vulnerable without judgment. Ask real questions. The shut up and listen.
  3. Therapy & Peer Groups: Normalize it. Encourage it. Offer to help find resources. Try: Man Therapy, NAMI Men's Support Groups, or faith-based circles.
  4. Creative Outlets: Men process through movement and hands-on expression. Try: journaling, music, building, fixing things, or nature.
  5. Cannabis with Soulwork: Used consciously, certain strains and terpenes (like linalool or myrcene) can help regulate anxiety, pain, and sleep. Pair with prayer, breathwork, or meditative rituals.

To the Men We Love:

You are not broken.

You are not a burden.

You are not alone.

You don't have to wear the world on your shoulders.

You are allowed to fall apart sometimes.

You're allowed to ask for help.

Your healing matters.

Your voice matters.

You matter.

Sacred Challenge of the Month:

Reach out to a man you love. Ask him how his soul is doing. Sit in the awkward silence if you have to-his life might depend on it.

And to my brothers reading this:

You've got a place here. A sacred space where faith, healing, and real talk collide. Stick around. Speak up. And please-stay.
